At La-Z-Boy, we know our products are designed to give you lasting comfort offering comfort and style that stand the test of time. However, ensuring your furniture ages beautifully and keeps its functionality requires proper care. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you maintain your fabric and leather upholstery, extending their lifespan and keeping them looking their best.

Care & Cleaning of Fabric Upholstery

General Maintenance:

  • Regularly vacuum or lightly brush with a nonmetallic, stiff bristle brush to remove dust and grime.
  • Use a professional furniture cleaning service when your furniture reaches an overall soiled condition.

Fabric Cleaning Codes:

Code W: Water-Based Cleaners

  • Spot clean with water-based shampoo or foam upholstery cleaner.
  • Pretest a small, inconspicuous area first.
  • Do not saturate; clean from the outside to the center of the spot to prevent circling.
  • Blot spills immediately. Pile fabrics may require brushing to restore appearance.
  • Avoid solvents and do not remove cushion covers for laundering.

Code S: Solvent Cleaners

  • Spot clean with a water-free dry cleaning solvent.
  • Pretest a small, inconspicuous area first.
  • Do not saturate; clean from the outside to the center of the spot to prevent circling.
  • Blot spills immediately. Pile fabrics may require brushing to restore appearance.
  • Do not use water and avoid removing cushion covers for dry cleaning.

Code W-S: Water-Based or Solvent Cleaners

Water-Based Stains (e.g., ketchup, mustard, wine):

  1. Blot excess liquid with a paper towel or cotton cloth.
  2. Use neutral soap and water, gently rubbing from side to center.
  3. Rinse with plain water and blot dry.
  4. Buff or vacuum to restore the suede look and feel.

Oil-Based Stains (e.g., ink, shoe polish):

  1. For light stains, use mild soap and water.
  2. For heavier stains, use an over-the-counter solvent cleaner. Pretest first.
  3. Clean the area with neutral soap and water to remove excess cleaner.
  4. Dry and buff as with water-based stains.

Code X: Vacuuming Only

  • Do not use foam or liquid cleaners. Vacuum or brush lightly to remove soil.

Care & Cleaning of Leather Upholstery

Leather Care Basics:

  • Dust and vacuum frequently using a crevice tool.
  • Use a clean, soft lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water for weekly dusting.
  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.
  • Keep furniture at least 12 inches away from radiators and heat sources to avoid drying and cracking.
  • Clean spills immediately by blotting, not rubbing.
  • Use a solution of 1/2 mild soap (like Neutrogena or Ivory) and 1/2 distilled water on a damp cloth or sponge to clean. Blot with a clean cloth dampened with clear distilled water to remove soap residue and dry thoroughly.
  • For tough stains, consult a professional leather cleaning service.

Full Aniline Leather:

Handcrafted premium leathers are treated with Aniline dye to preserve the natural, rustic beauty that makes each upholstered piece unique. This enhanced Crypton finish provides an invisible, protective shield that prolongs the life of the leather.

  • Protects against harmful UV damage
  • Repels dust, dirt, and stains
  • Replenishes natural oils
  • Environmentally safe*

Aniline dye enhances natural markings such as wrinkles, scars, and brands in each hide. These dramatic color variations are hallmarks of quality and give each piece a distinctive look all its own. The following images show some of the types of surface variations that could be visible.

*Crypton Leather Enhance uses bio-renewable materials produced from sand or mined silicon metal, and it is not petroleum-based. We only use chemistry that is safe for humans and the environment.
