Make Your Home Fall-Ready with Orange Hues

Fall is officially here. The leaves are changing and it’s time for your home to change with it! Orange is the ultimate fall colour. Deeper hues like cinnamon, burnt orange, and terracotta are earthy, cozy and rustic.  Lighter hues like tangerines, melon and salmon are soothing, energetic and vibrant. Reserved for the bold, orange can be an intimidating addition to a home. Orange, by it’s nature is inviting so confidently place it in rooms where the most activity occurs. An orange room evokes a warm and invigorating experience. If you don’t know where to begin, here are some tips to help you incorporate orange in your home this fall:

Test with accents - Orange can be overwhelming, especially if it’s in a large room. Instead of painting an entire room, or buying big orange furniture pieces—go the subtle route. Cushions, a throw, and photo frames with a pop of orange will immediately uplift a room without taking it over. If you are ready for more, try painting one wall. Or better yet, try wallpapering an orange pattern onto an accent wall. Accents are a great way to brighten a room that lacks natural lighting. If you are unsure how to use orange, your best bet is to keep it on small details. Interior design tip for splashes of color on pillows

The great outdoors - If you aren’t ready to bring orange into your home, try it outdoors first. Orange can be a big commitment, luckily, outdoor spaces are low-risk high reward. Pick your most playful ideas and use the natural setting to blend earthy tones. Try natural decorative pieces like gourds, pumpkins and wreaths. Or go bold with string lighting, lanterns and outdoor patio cushions.

Go for it! - Maximize the vibrancy of orange by making a statement. Try oranges on larger surfaces like a coffee table, area rug or even furniture upholstery. Be sure to spread a little orange love to other areas of the room to get the full effect. An orange statement room can be a mood-changer!

Cook up some colour - To achieve a contemporary look in the kitchen try utilizing orange to soften up the harshness of stainless steel. An orange painted back splash contrasts with greys and steel to give off modern vibes. Make sure to accessorize with orange decor to unify the look. Chairs, flowers, baskets, and shelves are all great decorations that could use colour in the kitchen.

Mix and match - Orange is more versatile than you might think. Try mixing different hues of oranges together to create more depth. Pair a muted tangerine with it’s citrus colour cousins for a refreshing flare. Whites, gold and a sienna orange for an elegant touch. Or try a bright orange with deep turquoise for a tropical oasis to escape to in the fall. Pro tip: The brighter the orange, the harder it is to find a complimentary colour to pair with it. Opt for cooler colours instead of warm.

Get decorating for the fall with orange. Decide how much orange is right for you and play with ideas, textures and hues. Just remember to be confident when using this bold colour! Happy decorating.
