Spring is a great time for a fresh start. The sunshine, the warm weather, Spring Break – as you get your home ready for Summer, you’re probably looking for ways to brighten and freshen up your space. We’ve got some tips from La-Z-Boy of Vancouver In-Home Designer, Kenji Chik, who gives us some insight into design trends for Spring 2016.
Add Some Contrast
Have you ever been stuck in a situation where you’re trying to think of ways to add more depth and detail to a room but don’t want to spend time and money on renovations? Look for ways to add contrast to your existing furniture. For example, the Collins sofafrom La-Z-Boy has the option to add contrast piping. This contrast can help highlight your sofa as a standalone piece and lets you incorporate some of your favourite colours into your sofa. To add an element of effortless elegance, if you have an accent wall use the same colour contrast piping.
Add Some Pantone
“Colours this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves.”
Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute™
The Top 10 Pantone Colours for 2016 will have you ready for Summer with their vibrancy. You can incorporate some of these colours by adding a set of colourful throw pillows or adding a bright area rug. These simple additions can make a big difference. It can be as easy as refreshing your wardrobe for the season!

Try a New View
If you have a fireplace and all your furniture faces it, try to rearrange for the Summer. Shift the focus of your space to a beautiful window looking out at the bright sunshine! If you have large drapes, take them down and hang sheer curtains to let the natural light illuminate your space and the fresh breeze cool you down. It’s amazing what a small furniture rearrange can do to your space – it’ll feel brand new!
