When Tyler and Leah Kovacs bought their house two years ago, they thought they would wait to invest in designing the living room. Tyler was a student, so whatever furniture they had was given to them. “What was our style before? It was free!” says Leah.
Today, she laughs as she recalls regretting that decision. “We wanted to upgrade because it was falling apart and it was totally mismatched. We literally had one yellow couch one red couch.”
The Kovacs took advantage of La-Z-Boy’s free interior design consultations and began the process of taking their living room from a college dorm room to a place for a young family to hang out.
“The biggest thing we wanted to change was a new seating area that suited the aesthetics of our house.”
Of course, they had to consider their budget, so the designer worked with what they already had (the nicer pieces) to help save money. Leah says she didn’t want anything crazy modern. “I wanted the design to fit the country theme because we live in the country.”
After consulting and going through many fabrics, colours, and themes, they settled two couches and two chairs to get started. There were also throws and pillows added for the aesthetic appeal.
They went with darker colours in case the kids wanted to draw all over the couch. For now, it’s only the living room that has been made over. And it’s still a work in progress.
“Now it coordinates, the whole room looks done.”
