Valley Mom Spends a Day with La-Z-Boy Part 2

Blast to the Past

This couch would make a welcome addition to my living room. Actually, I envision Betty Draper with her feet up, holding a martini in one hand and cigarette in the other. Of course, the latter would be risky — who would want to burn a hole on this luxurious thick tweed fabric? La-Z-Boy designer, Lori St. Germain, noted that brass is making a huge comeback, but not that yellowish hue that was in vogue in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

“The industrial look is really popular right now — it’s a mix of retro meets industrial with contemporary art.”

Lovely leopard Print

I also have to admit that I’m a huge fan of leopard print. I have leopard print tops, shoes, purses… even a water bottle, but I’ve always been too terrified to purchase furniture in this decadent print.

The beauty of these chairs is that the pillows are removable. That way, you can update your look throughout the year and not have to worry about suffering from the dreaded ‘buyers remorse.’ Nowadays, most homes are on the compact side — especially for first-time buyers. Rather than purchase a couch and a love seat, Lori recommends purchasing two chairs in lieu of the love seat.

“This way you can move them together to act as a love seat or move them around when you’re entertaining.”

Easy Entertaining

And speaking of entertaining, I’m a huge fan of this unique coffee table setup. The designer has grouped circular ottomans with raised tables that can easily be separated when needed. In our household, we never seem to have enough chairs, so this concept would work well for when company calls. For those wondering whether a couch, coffee table or entire set would look or even fit in their living space, La-Z-Boy can help you design the perfect room and bring it to life with their 3D Room planner. Quickly and easily create, redecorate and rearrange your room without any of the usual heavy lifting. Customize furniture and fabrics; add windows and doors, select floors… even change the colour of walls, without lifting a finger. You can even share pictures of your room creations with your family and friends.

Now I have to admit, ever since my visit to La-Z-Boy, my old couch is looking less desirable by the day. While we’re not quite ready to invest in a new one, I love that there are so many accessories out there to help update the look of our living room. One day, that tweed Mad Men(esque) -style couch will be ours, but until then, there are always fun throw pillows, lamps and vases to play around with.

Speaking of vases, we have partnered with La-Z-Boy in Langley to give one away a crystal pitcher/vase. To enter, simply tell us below what your favourite summer interior design trends are for 2015. Good luck! A winner will be chosen at random on June 30th.
