While I knew I could still find my grandpa’s trusty recliner at
La-Z-Boy, I recently discovered that the iconic furniture store offers so much more. In fact, the showroom, located just off the Langley Bypass, blew my mind and expectations.
Things have really evolved since La-Z-Boy first introduced the recliner in 1928. Over the subsequent decades, their product line has grown to include a myriad of pieces and styles, and the brand name has become highly recognized across the country and around the globe.
“A lot of consumers come in looking for a recliner and are pleasantly surprised to discover we have everything from living room and family furniture, to home decor, accessories… even furniture for your dining room and bedroom,” explained Lori St. Germain, a designer at La-Z-Boy, who to took me on a guided tour of the spacious store.
Whether it’s ultra modern, country chic, traditional, retro-inspired or everything in between, La-Z-Boy offers a large selection of styles to suit one’s personal taste, as well as their budget.
Before we began looking at the various furniture vignettes peppered throughout the sales floor, my eye was immediately drawn to these fabulous throw pillows.
Who says your couch or throw pillows have to be a bore? Certainly not La-Z-Boy! ”These are so fun and refreshing I said, clutching one of these bad boys to my chest.” While they appeal to my inner hipster side, I’m not quite sure my preschooler would find the skulls as endearing. However, I’m pretty sure I could get away with this style in our household. Actually, I may have once owned a few tops back in the 80’s in this exact same IKAT print.
This pattern brings me back to the days of Saturday morning cartoons, side ponytails and ‘scrunchies.’ Of course, the skulls and Ikat pattern were just the tip of the ‘I love this and have to have that’ iceberg for this Valley mom. When it comes to choices, the store has you covered — quite literally.
No matter what style of furniture you select, your piece can be upholstered in unending choices that range from fabrics in all colours, textures and patterns to choice of leather. There are also over 800 varieties, so you won’t end up with the same couch as everyone on your block.
So many options…
But with so many endless possibilities, how does one decide which new additions or complete collections to bring home-sweet-home?
That’s where Lori St. Germain comes in — and it’s clearly more than just her job, it’s her passion.
“Our design professionals will come to your home and help turn your dreams into reality. From finding the perfect colours and fabrics to choosing the right accessories, we’ll work with you to bring your room together. The service is free and the results are priceless.”
Before the La-Z-Boy designers make the house call, a meet up and tour at the store is always recommended, advised Lori.
“This way we can get to know you and what you’re looking for — it’s also important to test out the furniture before you buy it. Looks are important, but so is comfort.” We had one lady come and bring her knitting and sat in one of our recliner for hours to make sure it was just right.
While I’m drawn to eclectic, funky accessories, I err on the conservative when it comes to furniture. Let’s face it, trends come and go, but most of us don’t plan on replacing our couch every couple of years.
If you’re like me, you want one that looks great, is comfortable and will stand up to the test of time as well as the style forecast.
There’s lots more I’d love to show you – tune in next week for part 2!
Before you go, we have partnered with La-Z-Boy in Langley to give one away a crystal pitcher/vase. To enter, simply tell us below what your favourite summer interior design trends are for 2015. Good luck! A winner will be chosen at random on June 30th.
